Artist statement

My artworks are whimsically poetic and intricate. The fleeting moments of light and shadow in nature as seen from the confines of an apartment’s windows inspire and give precious eternal treasures residing in empyrean dimensions become the core of my art practice. The delicacy of patterns on a leaf, the color, texture and form of a flower, these elements of nature are often overlooked in the rush to get on with our lives. I seek to capture moments that encourage the viewer to re-discover the beautiful elements of nature in the everyday, and to consider the importance of the intimate moments that create a harmony between human activities and the surrounding nature. It is momentous how one perceives the beauty of nature whether in view partially, at a distance, in a close-up or to have an entire view to rediscover.

My exploring medium is to have stitching on my artworks together with painting, drawing and photographic print on fabric that takes an impressionistic approach through the processes of cyanotype and photography. Stitching is a connection between the artwork and myself as each stitch is like tracing, a reminder in time, which one experiences and preserves. Most of the processes of my artworks take place in confine familiar spaces like corridors and staircases of my apartment block and also the surrounding areas within the estate.
